Newcastle are aiming to return to the top flight at the first attempt following last season’s disappointing relegation from the Premier League.
Newcastle United’s Jack Colback applauds fans after the match
Newcastle United midfielder Jack Colback has told the Chronicle he feels everything is being done ‘properly’ at the club under Rafa Benitez.
Colback believes that club has everything in place to achieve their short term goal of getting back into the Premier League at the first attempt this season, while in the future they can push on whenever they return to the top flight.
Colback told the Chronicle: “I think everything is there now to get the club back in the Premier League and to push on. I think maybe things weren’t ideal and there was a limit to how far the club could have gone but I think people have realised that it can’t be like that any more.

“Things seem to be getting done properly now. It’s a long-term goal of promotion and then to get the club back to where it needs to be but if we can do that, we can push on from there and see where we can go.”
The Magpies are certainly pretty well positioned after 11 games of the Championship season so far – as they sit in third place and just three points behind league leaders Huddersfield Town.
The club have been pretty keen to put the debacle of last season’s relegation behind them and secure a swift return to the top flight.
Newcastle United Manager Rafael Benitez
It’s certainly a huge project for Benitez, but those at Newcastle – including the players and fans – feel they should be in the Premier League and able to compete in that division to a degree where they wouldn’t be too worried about the prospect of relegation given the size of the club and its resources.
Now they can add a manager with pedigree to that who has experienced of managing in the European competitions year after year that many that it’s perhaps not that unrealistic for it to become the medium term goal.
This season is a massive hurdle to overcome for those kinds of ambitions to become a reality and even if things are being done ‘properly’, Newcastle will know they won’t have it all their own way.
