Young Liverpool winger Harry Wilson was pleased to see the manager of the Reds’ first-team Jurgen Klopp in attendance as the under-23 team followed in the footsteps of the senior side this weekend in putting four past Leicester City, this time without conceding.

One or two of the younger players were given opportunities to shine in pre-season and those that have not managed to secure loan moves away from the club remain to play for the second string, and it seems the manager is taking a good look at them.

Wilson told the official Liverpool website: “It’s great to see the manager coming down and watching us.

“It gives us a chance to show him what we can do. And if we play well, we can hopefully get into his plans.”

The likes of Ben Woodburn and Ovie Ejaria caught the eye of many Liverpool fans during pre-season, and they both managed to find the net along with Wilson during their win over Leicester City on Sunday, and will have done their chances of possibly breaking into the first-team this season no harm at all.

The main thing that will hold them back is the lack of European football this season, meaning less games while Klopp seems to have a pretty settled squad at his disposal at the moment.

However, there could be opportunities when the cup games come around, and busier periods of the season such as over Christmas to stake a claim for first-team games when players are perhaps a little more tired than usual, or if injuries start to show.

If any of the younger players do get a chance to perform once or twice for the first-team this season, then the chances are they will have impressed the manager quite a bit.
