Wijnaldum scored his first Liverpool goal as the Reds went top of the Premier League with a 6-1 win over Watford.
Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has told the club’s official website he was delighted to score his first goal for the club in the 6-1 win over Watford – which took the Reds top of the Premier League – but is not getting carried away with the Reds hitting the front after 11 games.
Wijnaldum, much like his manager Jürgen Klopp, seems to keeping his feet on the ground on the prospect of the side making a major push for their first title since 1990.
The Dutchman – who scored the last goal of Liverpool’s rout at Anfield – told liverpoolfc.com: “I’m really pleased, especially in a game like this when you see everyone scoring. I was searching for the goal and I’m happy that I’ve got it.

“We as players must realise that it is not common to be at the top of the league, so you must work hard – that’s what we’ve done, worked hard to get there.
“Now we will try to stay there until the end of the season because being at the top of the table at the end of the season is more important than it is now. It’s still early in the season, so everything can happen.”
Liverpool’s advantage is a slender one – as they lead Chelsea by a solitary point – with the top four covered by two points. There’s still much work for the side to do to position themselves in the title race even after a start which has seen them win eight of their opening 11 matches.

Their good start will certainly help and the side will look to push on after the international break. Liverpool seem to be adopting an approach of just taking one game at a time but they have shown they can score goals from all areas of the team, and their haul at the weekend suggests that isn’t going to stop any time soon.
It’s a good confidence boost for Wijnaldum on a personal level to get off the mark in front of goal and though they’re not trying to get too far ahead of themselves, scoring plenty of goals and becoming the leading scorers is sending a big message out to the rest of their rivals.
