If the bookies odds were anything to go by before kick-off then Portugal will have cruised to victory over Iceland, but instead it proved to be one of the stories of the tournament as Cristiano Ronaldo and company were held to a 1-1 draw by their less known opponents.
Gylfi Sigurdsson almost got Iceland off to the perfect start when he brought about a double save from Rui Patricio.
Portugal started to take control of the game, and while all eyes where on one former Manchester United player in Ronaldo, it was Nani who was having the chances. He had one header denied by Hannes Thór Halldórsson, before he finished off a move on the half hour mark to give Portugal the lead.
It seemed at that point they may run away with things but Iceland saw things out until half time. Shortly after the break, they stunned their most illustrious opponents as Birkir Bjarnson capitalised on some poor Portugal defending to score a historic goal for his country.
Portugal threatened, Iceland looked nervous but they survived and a point was the least they deserved.
