Brendan Rodgers seems to keen to send Andre Wisdom on loan, but to do so following Sebastian Coates’ injury he admits will need a new centre half.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers confirmed that he is looking for a new central defensive player following the injury of Sebastian Coates. Here is a look at a few potential options.
Kyriakos Papadopoulos – Schalke
Liverpool have been linked with the Greek centre-half for much of the summer but it appears that this will be one avenue closed given a picture – alleged to be Papadopoulos – appearing to be injured with a recurrence of a knee injury during a training session. One you would think Liverpool won’t go after now given his injury problem.
Mamadou Sakho – PSG
He has been reported as saying he would prefer a move to AC Milan and some reports suggested he wants a Liverpool move so who knows where this lad will end up? But he is a player Liverpool are interested in, having had an offer reportedly rejected, and it seems Sakho would like to leave PSG.
Tiago Ilori – Sporting Lisbon
It would seem his the most likely of the five players to arrive at Anfield this summer given the recent speculation. Liverpool are interested and have already had a bid rejected according to some reports of around £3m, so if they up their offer he is a realistic option. However, they are not the only team interested with Monaco, Tottenham and Everton also amongst the sides linked with the defender.
Ashley Williams – Swansea
He has worked with Rodgers before at his current club and was linked heavily with a reunion towards the back end of last season. However, interest seems to have cooled on that front and Rodgers seems to have looked elsewhere.
Toby Alderweireld – Ajax
The Belgian seems to have attracted plenty of interest from Premier clubs, with Liverpool rumoured to be interested not so long ago. Arsenal are also rumoured to be interested, but at the age of 24, he might have the necessary experience Rodgers is after, yet can easily be moulded into Liverpool’s style of play.
