Rio Ferdinand looks as though he’s in his last season in a Manchester United shirt.
The time was always going to come when manager David Moyes would have to phase out some of the old guard at Manchester United – and Thursday’s Daily Telegraph is reporting that Rio Ferdinand won’t be offered a new deal, and is set to leave Old Trafford at the end of the season.
But given that David Moyes is a manager with little experience managing sides competing for the Premier League title, or challenging for European honours, you’d think that there would be some sense in keeping a player like Ferdinand around to provide the younger Manchester United players with the benefit of his experience and knowledge of the game.
Whilst Moyes may think that Ferdinand’s playing days are behind him, he would be wise to try and keep the defender in his corner in some capacity, as the manager looks to break his trophy drought.
Having cleared out a lot of previous manager Sir Alex Ferguson’s backroom staff, maybe Moyes would be better off trying to find roles for more of the players Sir Alex signed that were responsible for bringing in all those trophies to Old Trafford in the first place ?
Should Manchester United offer Ferdinand a backroom role of some kind ?
