Lamela suggests Tottenham Hotspur are more of a team under their current boss.
Tottenham Hotspur star Erik Lamela has praised his boss Mauricio Pochettino for being able to change the mentality around the club, the London Evening Standard reports, citing quotes from JD Football.
Lamela feels the side is playing like a team. During the Argentine’s time at the club, he has played under three different managers including Pochettino, with Andre Villas-Boas and Tim Sherwood beforehand.
Neither of Pochettino’s two immediate predecessors managed to deliver Champions League football or any sort of a title challenge like the current boss did last season.
This season Spurs are currently unbeaten in the Premier League, although they are five points off the top of the table, but Lamela clearly feels the mentality is correct under his current manager.
He is quoted in the Evening Standard, saying: “The team has changed a lot, we changed a lot of players and – honestly – we changed the mentality.
“We want to win every game and we know we can win – this is important.
“He helps a lot but not just me – the whole team. We are playing like a team and the mentality is good. We need to keep working in the same way.”
There has certainly been a shift in approach in the past couple of seasons at Tottenham as now there is more of an expectancy to win big games, and not just among their own fan base.
Although they may be a little off the pace in terms of the league table at this stage of the season, it is worth noting that none of Tottenham’s rivals have got the better of them in 90 minutes.
It may have been a sticky run of form of late for Spurs, but going into games expecting to win is an important part of becoming a successful team.
