Liverpool have made a positive start to the Premier League season and are looking to maintain their momentum in the EFL Cup against Derby this evening.

Liverpool striker Divock Origi has told the club’s official website that they will not be complacent ahead of tonight’s EFL Cup tie against Derby County as they look to continue their good start to the season.

The Reds have encountered a tricky start to the campaign which has seen them play all but one of their games so far this season away from home, but they have emerged with 10 points from their first five matches in the Premier League – with a shock defeat to Burnley the only major blot on their copybook.

Origi has only had one start this season – in the previous round of the EFL Cup where he scored the opener in a 5-0 win at Burton Albion.

The Belgian told the official Liverpool website: “For us, it’s a tough game and in a cup everything can happen. You have to be strong physically, go into it with the mind of a fighter and play our football. That will be our aim.

“We want to win this game and be competitive in all competitions.

“We want to stay in a positive run and continue our good football. In football, of course anything can happen, but we’ll do everything to continue our form. It’s also important for confidence to win.”

Origi may get a chance to lead the line this evening if Klopp decides to make one or two changes to his line-up. The Belgian has featured from the bench in a few games already this season, and towards the back end of last season he showed he can be a big contributor to any success Liverpool may have in the future.

He is still a very young player and he will be eager to get some decent game time under his belt. In terms of the EFL Cup, Liverpool will want to keep this avenue to silverware open as they look to win their first trophy in five seasons.
