Origi has scored in each of his last five appearances.

Liverpool striker Divock Origi has said he has set himself an ambitious goal target, but it is one that he will keep to himself, the Liverpool Echo reports.

Origi is in very good form and has scored in each of the last five games as he has been called upon to lead the attack in the absence of Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge.

The Belgian has had to bide his time to wait for a run in the side but in terms of goal-scoring form he has taken it with both hands and currently has seven in all competitions so far this season.

He is quoted in the Liverpool Echo, saying: “I like to keep my goals target to myself but I am very ambitious. I want to get the best out of my potential.

“The goals have given me confidence but I still have to grow and now is not the time to be happy. I have to work hard and keep going.”

It is a run he will hope to extend this evening when the Reds make the short trip across Stanley Park to take on Everton in the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.

Origi is likely to lead the line again this evening and will hope to build on his scoring display in his maiden derby appearance, although he will hope that no poor challenges will lead to his evening ending on a stretcher – like in April when Ramiro Funes Mori’s challenge meant his evening ended prematurely.

If Origi can keep this form going around the time when both Sturridge and Coutinho are reaching full fitness, then it will give manager Jurgen Klopp a welcome a selection headache. Any goal target that Origi has in mind would surely have to depend on the amount of time he spends on the field.

He might get a run in the side during Sadio Mane’s absence when he heads to the Africa Cup of Nations for example. Double figures is firmly in sight, and that is one milestone that he will want to pass before the turn of the year.

If he does that, then one would think 20 in all competitions will be the forward’s personal minimum requirement.
