Liverpool have taken some significant scalps this season, but a battling win over struggling opposition impressed the German.

Former Liverpool player Dietmar Hamann

Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann has told the official Liverpool magazine that their win over Swansea City prior to the international break was as impressive as the victories against the likes of Arsenal, Leicester City and Chelsea.

Liverpool have managed to start the season taking 16 points from their opening seven games in what has been a very difficult run of fixtures, but Hamann picked out the win over Swansea as an important one.

Jürgen Klopp’s side were trailing 1-0 at half-time after a difficult 45 minutes at the Liberty Stadium but managed to turn things around in the second half thanks to Roberto Firmino’s header and a James Milner penalty.

Hamann told the official Liverpool magazine: “The reality is, though, that there will be games when you don’t score freely or struggle. And on those occasions you simply need to find a way to win.

“That’s why the victory at Swansea City just before the international break was probably as impressive as some of those other results I’ve already mentioned.

“A goal down away from home at half-time, plenty needed to be done to turn the situation around. The fact they did that hopefully bodes well for the rest of the season.”

When the Reds went 1-0 down in South Wales, there were some wondering whether they would have the same trouble as they did away to Burnley earlier on in the season. This time Liverpool managed to find something in the second half, raise their game, and eventually come away with all three points.

There are going to be different kinds of games that Liverpool will have to find ways to win this season, they are going to simply brush aside their opposition in every game they face. There are going to be some big battles for the side to win along the way but Hamann seems happy to have seen a side prepared to battle to a win even if they have not played as well as they can.
