Sunderland’s new signing Didier Ndong has promised the club’s fans plenty of commitment after arriving in a deal that broke their transfer record.
The 22-year-old central midfielder completed a £13.6 million move from Lorient and signed a five-year deal at the Stadium of Light.
He is quoted in the Sunderland Echo, saying: “Maybe the Sunderland fans don’t know me yet, but I promise that they will quickly discover that I will give everything for them and the club.
“It will be an honour to wear the Sunderland shirt and I will wear it with a true understanding of what it means.”
Commitment can go a long way to winning over a passionate fanbase and there will be plenty of expectation on the shoulders of the Gabon international, purely because he is their record transfer and there will be some expectation he will have the talent to back it up.
David Moyes has dealt with a squad that has been thin on the ground ever since he succeeded Sam Allardyce as manager at the Stadium of Light and the central midfield area was in need of strengthening.
Ndong looks set to make his debut after the international break when the Black Cats take on Everton at the Stadium of Light.
He will be looking to help the side improve on their start to the season which has seen them pick up just one point from their opening three Premier League games.
