Origi has been called upon in the last few games after waiting a little while for his chance.

Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has praised the work ethic and attitude of striker Divock Origi, in an interview with the club’s official website.

Origi has had to wait for his opportunity to get a regular starting place, having only been involved in Premier League games from the bench prior to last Sunday’s trip to Bournemouth, while his four other starts all came in the EFL Cup.

The Belgian has been behind the trio of Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane, as well as Daniel Sturridge in the forward’s pecking order, but injuries to Coutinho and Sturridge means the Belgian has had his chance to impress.

He came off the bench to open the scoring in the win against Sunderland, before netting again in the EFL Cup quarter-final against Leeds United, and he produced a stunning finish in the 4-3 defeat to Bournemouth at the weekend, taking his goal tally this season to five.

Lovren told liverpoolfc.com prior to last weekend’s game: “That’s the right attitude, you need to have patience. I know it’s quite difficult when you are young and you’re not playing. You know you need to get the chance, but like I said to him, you need to work hard behind the doors, behind the scenes and you will get the chance, that’s for sure.

“Maybe someone will get injured and that’s the time. [But] if you didn’t work good, then it will be difficult to get in and you will need five or six games to score a goal. But he was working really professionally.”

No one can doubt that Origi has taken the opportunity presented to him by finding the net, and he would hope to keep up that goal-scoring run at the weekend when the Reds take on West Ham United in the Premier League.

He offers a different dynamic compared to the other forwards in the Liverpool team in that he offers more of a focal point given his strength and presence, but his pace and movement can allow for the side to remain fluid in the final third.
