Lovren missed the win over Hull City with a virus.
Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren will be available for the side’s trip to Swansea City after missing the win over Hull City at the weekend with a virus, according to the Liverpool Echo.
Lovren will hope to get the nod ahead of Ragnar Klavan, who partnered Joel Matip during the Reds’ comprehensive 5-1 win over the Tigers.
The Echo reports that Lovren will be back in full training this week as the Reds prepare for their trip to South Wales on Saturday lunchtime.
It will be interesting to see what decision Jurgen Klopp makes ahead of the game, given that many feel Lovren has struck up a good understanding with Matip. However, it was hard to fault the performance of Klavan, apart from the odd shaky moment, as he seemed to acquit himself well, particularly on the ball and in any aerial battle.
The task for whoever gets the nod at the back will be to try to help the Reds get their first clean sheet in the league this season as they go in search of their fourth successive league victory going into the international break.
Keeping Klavan in the side would at least mean the same back five are likely to play back-to-back games for the first time this season, while the reintroduction of Lovren would mean he would play in front of Loris Karius in a competitive environment for the first time. Only Klopp knows whether or not that is a real factor for him.
Either way, it would seem a little harsh on whoever misses out given their individual performances of late and is a nice dilemma for the manager to have ahead of the weekend.
