Moyes is confident he will get backing in the transfer market after succeeding Sam Allardyce.
New Sunderland manager David Moyes is targeting players in three positions, according to a report in the Sunderland Echo, and is looking to make four or five new signings that he feels the side needs.
They report that Moyes is looking for a new right-back, centre-back and a forward as he looks to put his own stamp on the side he inherited from Sam Allardyce, who last week was confirmed as the new England manager.
Sunderland have yet to do any transfer business this summer under Allardyce’s guidance, so funds are there for Moyes to bring in players should he wish to do so.
It sounds like Moyes’ targets are similar to that of Allardyce prior to his departure from the Stadium of Light but the names may be different.
Away from transfers, Moyes will be looking to ensure that Sunderland do not have to rally late on in the season in order to avoid relegation like they have done for each of the last four seasons, and the hierarchy at the club will want some stability given they have had a series of different managers in the past few seasons.
Some have compared the state of the club to the way Moyes found Everton when he took over at Goodison Park in 2003, and over an 11-year period he managed to make them a top-eight club. A similar kind of project would be welcome on Wearside.
Moyes himself will be keen to put the disappointing spells he had in charge of Manchester United and Real Sociedad behind him.
