Southampton take on Inter Milan in the Europa League at the San Siro this evening.
Southampton manager Claude Puel has urged his side to maintain their concentration ahead of their Europa League clash with Inter Milan at the San Siro this evening, the Daily Echo reports.
The Saints can take a giant stride towards qualification this evening by a recording a famous victory at the home of the Serie A side.
Puel is quoted in the Daily Echo, saying: “I think this game is very important but it’s one of the games for the qualification.
“It’s important to stay with good concentration for every game of this Europa League.
“Of course, to play away and Inter Milan is exciting, but this is for us just a game.”
Puel wants his side to approach things in the same way as their opening two games of their Europa League campaign, which saw them pick up four points without conceding a goal and position themselves well for qualification from the group.
The Saints have been in very good form of late, with Burnley ending their run of clean sheets during Sunday’s game, but it was a match that Southampton managed to win as they rose to eighth place in the division, with their league form reading 10 points from their last four games.
Puel’s side have certainly started to find their feet, but he does not want them to be overwhelmed by the occasion, judging by his comments.
Nor should they be either as they are facing an Inter side that is not in great shape, as they sit in 11th place in Serie A after eight games and have lost both of their Europa League group games. Southampton should be confident they can get the result they want tonight.
