Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam has said he never wanted to leave the club despite reports of other clubs in the Premier League being interested in his services.

Adam has yet to feature in a Premier League game so far this season, as summer signings may have seen him fall down the pecking order a little, notably with Joe Allen arriving from Liverpool.

But Adam remains happy at the club, and is happy that the club seems to want to keep him. He is quoted in the Stoke Sentinel, saying: “I think there were inquiries in the summer and there was at the end of the window, but the manager and the club made the decision that they didn’t want me to leave.

“That wasn’t a problem because I never asked to leave. I will leave the decision to the management team because I’m happy here.

“Yes I’m frustrated I haven’t been playing, but the manager knows that and I’ll be ready for the opportunity.”

The key now for Adam is attitude, to keep working hard in training to ensure he remains firmly in the manager’s mind should an opportunity arise for a spot in the middle of the park.

Adam featured on 22 occasions in the Premier League last season – both from the start and from the bench so Mark Hughes clearly thinks he has some qualities. Sometimes they may be better served as impact from the bench, or from the start of games – depending on the opponent.

Given the club wanted to keep hold of the Scot, one would think that he would have a prominent part to play in the Potters’ season.
