Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin happy with first team opportunities he’s getting

Bellerin has yet to feature in a Premier League game but seems satisfied with the opportunities he’s getting to impress Arsene Wenger.

Young Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin has said he is pleased with the chances he is getting at the club this season, after he appeared in the side’s 2-1 League Cup defeat against Southampton at the Emirates Stadium last night.

It was Bellerin’s second appearance of the season after he played for 90 minutes at right-back in the Champions League defeat to Borussia Dortmund last week and the 19-year-old seems happy to have the opportunities he has got at the club so far, and took time to praise the Saints for their win.

He told Arsenal.com: “They [Southampton] played a really good game as well but I think the team played well, we had our chances.

“I think we deserved a bit more but these things happen in these kind of competitions where you’ve just got one game and you’ve got to do your best.

“It was an inexperienced back-line but I think we did well. We need to keep playing and get this experience because otherwise you never start. It’s always a pleasure to play with these players and overall it’s a great experience for us.

“Everything’s happened really fast and I’m happy for the chances that I’m being given. I’m working hard every week and getting my rewards makes me feel really happy.

“You just need to keep working hard and try and get in the starting XI. I’m young but that’s what I’m waiting for and working for.”

With Arsenal a little short when it comes to experienced defenders right now, Bellerin may get more chances in the future, but an opportunity to play more games has been limited a little because of the defeat to Southampton. A cup run could’ve given the younger players in the Arsenal side more opportunities and a bit more experience of the big stage if they reached the latter part of the competition.

However, with Mathieu Debuchy sidelined for three months, one more injury to the defensive line could see Bellerin get more and more chances, resulting in this becoming a big season for the Spaniard.
