Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur will face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.

Arsenal legend Ian Wright criticised Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino on The Monday Night Club show on BBC Radio 5 Live on Monday evening (7:41pm, March 5, 2019).

The former Arsenal striker said that he finds Pochettino’s recent comments about Tottenham’s match schedule strange and confusing.

Ahead of Spurs’ Champions League last-16 second-leg tie against Borussia Dortmund in Germany on Tuesday evening, Pochettino complained about lack of enough preparation time for his players, as quoted in The Guardian.

Tottenham were in action on Saturday lunchtime when they took on Arsenal in the North London derby, and will face Dortmund this evening.

Wright finds Pochettino’s comments negative, and said on The Monday Night Club show on BBC Radio 5 Live on Monday evening (7:41pm, March 4, 2019): “I find very strange at this stage of the season especially when Spurs are in and around something where they have got to go to the next level, he seems to find a way of being negative about something, almost like trying to give himself and his team a way out.

“They are 3-0 up. Why are you even worried about this? It’s another negative you are bringing in on yourself and the team. I really find him very, very confusing at this stage of the season, it’s really strange.”

Champions League progress

Tottenham won the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie against Dortmund 3-0 at Wembley Stadium in London.

Despite Dortmund having home advantage this evening, Spurs will be confident of progressing to the quarter-finals of Europe’s premier club competition.

Tottenham are unlikely to win the Premier League title this season, but the North London outfit are very much in the race for a Champions League place.
