Mauricio Pochettino’s men are currently sitting in second position in the table, a full nine points adrift of Antonio Conte’s men, but are one of the league’s in-form sides, having not lost since 11th December.

But Wright explained how he believes that Tottenham have their work cut-out if they expect to catch the Blues, because Chelsea are simply too strong this season, when speaking on BBC Match of the Day programme:

“I can’t see it [Spurs leapfrogging Chelsea]. Even if Chelsea do have a couple of slips they haven’t got that kind run-in where they will totally capitulate. They’re playing too well.”

One thing in Spurs’ favour is that they have played every team inside the top eight away from home, apart from Liverpool – who they play at Anfield next weekend.

And they have shown in their big games so far this term that they are more than capable of mixing it with the Premier League’s so-called big boys.
