Liverpool won a Premier League classic on Sunday evening.

Liverpool schemer Philippe Coutinho scored arguably the best goal seen in the Premier League this weekend on Sunday.

With Liverpool trailing 1-0 to Arsenal at the Emirates, the Brazilian fired an exquisite free kick past Petr Cech from 35 yards on the stroke of half time in what seemed a watershed moment in a classic Premier League opener for both sides.

After the break, Adam Lallana and Coutinho netted further goals to give Jurgen Klopp’s side a 3-1 lead, before Sadio Mane, on his Reds debut following a £34 million move fom Southampton, added a fourth in fine fashion.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Calum Chambers went on to reduce the arrears, though it was too little too late for the North Londoners.

Most of the seven goals scored were very, very decent, but Wright’s one-word description of Coutinho’s first seems particularly apt.

It was a very fine performance by Klopp’s boys, but it was an under-strength Arsenal XI and time will tell whether it was a reflection on Liverpool’s quality or the Gunners’ incompetency on the day.
