Tottenham Hotspur have the strongest defence in the Premier League, having conceded the fewest goals so far.

Speaking on BBC’s Match of the Day programme on Saturday January 14th, former Arsenal star Ian Wright raved about two of Spurs’ stars, labelling Danny Rose and Kyle Walker as ‘unbelievable’.

The full-backs have been immense for Mauricio Pochettino so far this season, and their presence in the side is arguably as important as headline grabbers Harry Kane and Dele Alli’s.

Their fitness levels are at the very high end of the scale, and they need to be, what with the amount of high intensity work expected of them from the Argentine.

And Wright, who scored 185 goals for Tottenham’s bitter rivals Arsenal, highlighted how the width provided by Rose and Walker is so integral to the way in which Pochettino expects his side to operate, when speaking on the BBC’s Match of the Day programme:

“Rose and Walker – especially at home are just unbelievable. We know that West Brom were going to set up in a six [defensively]. We saw it against Chelsea and we saw it against Arsenal. Walker’s all the way out on the right-hand side and Rose is out on the left. Nacer Chadli had the thankless task of having to deal with Danny Rose, who is arguably one of the best left-backs in Europe at the moment.”

The pair have fully established themselves as first choice for both club and country over the past couple of seasons, and at 26-years-old, they have arguably not yet even reached their prime.

If Spurs are to mount a sustained challenge for the Premier League title this term, one would suspect that they will have to keep both Rose and Walker fit and on top form for the remainder of the campaign.
