Newcastle United are said to be interested in Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham, with Rafael Benitez wanting to improve his attack.

Ian Wright told the Chronicle that he was desperate for Tammy Abraham to join Newcastle United, and now he may well get his wish.

The Northern Echo claim that Newcastle are set to move for Abraham in January, as Rafael Benitez wants to bring the young striker to St. James’ Park.

And Wright may well be delighted with the transfer, judging by his past comments about Abraham moving to Newcastle.

“I was praying that someone like Tammy Abraham went somewhere like there [Newcastle] and I keep saying it because it would be an unbelievable place to score goals at and build,” Wright said earlier this year.

“Look at how they took to Andy Cole when he scored. I watched Tammy come on the other day against Man United and I’m seeing some improvement. But it is the kind of place under Rafa that with someone like Kenedy who he knows from Chelsea and he starts scoring goals.”

Abraham ended up moving to Swansea City last season and Aston Villa this time around, with Newcastle seemingly not his first choice back in 2017.

However, Abraham may have another chance to make a move to St. James’ Park and he would be an intriguing addition.

Abraham’s last spell in the Premier League was disappointing, but his form at Championship level has been highly encouraging.

The powerful forward has dominated defences in the second tier, and he could have the ability to improve Newcastle’s attack.

Newcastle currently have Salomon Rondon, Ayoze Perez, Joselu and Yoshinori Muto competing for places up-front.
