Ian Wright hopes Arsenal join Liverpool in pursuit of the Southampton defender.

Ian Wright has said on Twitter that he hopes Arsenal join the race for Liverpool target Virgil van Dijk.
The 25-year-old is still at Southampton after his move to the Anfield club broke down earlier this week.
The Mail reported on Thursday that the Saints want a whopping £70 million for the centre-back.

With his move to Liverpool seemingly off for the moment, it is open season on the Netherlands international again.
And the Arsenal icon hopes that his former club show their interest in him.

Wright is correct – Arsenal do need a player like that.
They have Shkodran Mustafi, Laurent Koscielny and Rob Holding, but Van Dijk is arguably an upgrade on all three of them.
Koscienly is rated highly by Arsenal fans but the Frenchman turns 32 in September and a decline seems inevitable, with pace being a big part of his game.
Van Dijk would get into the Gunners’ first XI, but after spending £30 million on Mustafi last summer, and Holding seemingly set for a big future in English football, Arsene Wenger is not the type of manager to hinder the players he already has.
