Arsenal legend Ian Wright has told BT Sport that Theo Walcott should have been showing his current form seven years ago.

The forward has started this season in fine form for the Gunners with a series of impressive displays so far.

He continued his rich vein of form on Wednesday as he scored twice in the win of FC Basel in the Champions League.

So far this season is looking like it could be his best in an Arsenal shirt to date, with early indications being he is finally set to realise the potential he promised as a youngster.

And while Wright is pleased to see Walcott hitting form, he says it should have happened much sooner.

Speaking before the clash with Basel he told BT Sport: “Everything he is doing now he should have been doing six or seven years ago.”

“You can see the intensity in him. He needs to work on picking out the right pass [but] he’s doing the right things.”

There is no denying that Walcott has shown vast improvement in nearly all areas of his game this season.

On a per game basis, he has already managed more goals, more shots on target, more key passes and more won dribbles than last season.

He has also already registered an assist after managing just two in the entirety of last season.

Of course, it is only early days yet but if he continues in this form then the rest of the campaign could be a very exciting one for him and Arsenal.
