Casemiro has probably had the worst week of his footballing life following two appalling performances for Manchester United.
The 32-year-old has done it all at club level, including being a bonafide club legend and serial Champions League winner for Real Madrid.
If fans thought Casemiro’s performance during Manchester United’s 4-0 defeat to Crystal Palace on Monday night was bad enough, then he took it up a level against Arsenal.
The midfielder, who is currently playing at centre-back, criminally kept Kai Havertz well on side and it was his run and cross into the box that allowed Leandro Trossard to score the only goal of the game.
Many have been rightfully bashing the Manchester United star for his costly error and bone-idle laziness to not get back into position.
Ian Wright agreed with that all, but was also keen to put forward the name of Aaron Wan-Bissaka because he lost his man for that goal.
Given that the 26-year-old is known for his defending and locking down players, Wright admitted that he was ‘very surprised’ by how Trossard got the better of him at Old Trafford, as he told Premier League Productions (12/05/24 at 6:45 pm).
It was just a defensive mess of the highest order and a key reason why the under-fire Erik ten Hag is guiding the team to a possible eighth-place finish.
That would be the worst in Manchester United’s history during the Premier League era and they only have themselves to blame.
Casemiro and Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s defending
“This is where Arsenal were ruthless, we heard Kai Havertz saying in the interview that he had a look across and saw Casemiro not coming out,” said Wright.
“That is the level that we are dealing with. You can’t make a mistake of this magnitude in a game that means so much to the opposition like Casemiro is doing here. He isn’t getting out quick enough. Kai Havertz has seen it. Ben White has executed it very, very well.
“But I think with Trossard’s run, Wan-Bissaka I am very surprised he has let him get across like that. But the run is very good. Maybe that’s where Casemiro should have gone. He has got in there with pace and sorted his feet out. The ball has come across very quickly. Three people in and around him. It’s the kind of goal they needed to score at that stage, just to put the pressure on Manchester United.”

Manchester United’s leaking roof
As the game against Arsenal was drawing to a close, you could hear the thunder shuddering over the Manchester skies.
The heavens were about to open up and illustrate the doom and gloom Manchester United are going through.

The leaky roof inside Old Trafford was thrashing down like a waterfall to just further demonstrate how there has been a lack of care at the club since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure.
Many fans will be hoping Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s arrival as minority owner will, in years to come, change things for the good and the unlikely scenario of the sun beaming down on the red side of Manchester.
