Tottenham Hotspur are currently in second place in the Premier League table.

Ian Wright has told BT Sport’s Premier League Tonight Show, which was broadcast on 6th May, that Tottenham Hotspur only need to look at Arsenal to see why they must start paying more money in wages.

Tottenham’s wage structure has come into question in recent weeks, with speculation rising over a number of their key players’ futures.

Spurs, currently, generally refuse to pay any of their players more than £100,000-a-week – with Daniel Levy keen not to overspend.

However, with Tottenham challenging for the title in the last two seasons, their players’ demands are increasing.

Toby Alderweireld reportedly is looking for a pay rise (The Sun), and it has been suggested that the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Hugo Lloris could all look to negotiate new contracts.

And Wright believes that Spurs will have to start paying their players higher salaries, if they are to kick on to the next level.

“They played Arsenal the other week. There’s Arsenal players on the bench, that are on more than Harry Kane,” Wright said.

“Now there’s talk that Walker and Alderweireld will leave. Tottenham are now starting to realise that they will have to pay those players, the same as the clubs they are competing with.”

Tottenham’s title hopes were ended this season, after they were beaten by West Ham United on Friday evening.

Spurs have still had a very productive campaign, though, and look likely to finish in second place.
