Arsenal have been linked with a move for Djed Spence, and interestingly, he’s a player who has caught Gunners legend Ian Wright’s eye very recently.

Wrighty was in attendance for Nottingham Forest’s game against Arsenal in the FA Cup, and it’s fair to say that Spence was brilliant for the Tricky Trees.

Indeed, Spence was excellent. He made six dribbles, was fouled four times and he also made four interceptions. All in all, it was an incredible showing.

Wright was so impressed that he actually spoke to Spence after the match, and he told him to his face that he’s good enough for the Premier League.

What’s Wright said to Spence?

The pundit spoke about his conversation with the defender on the Wrighty’s House podcast last week.

“I swear to god. I saw him after the game, and I said ‘listen my friend, you’re on loan from Middlesbrough, I don’t know what’s happened there, because if you can’t get into the Middlesbrough side, I don’t know what’s wrong.’

“Let me tell you, that was one of the best right-back performances I’ve seen for a very long-time. If we’re talking about right-backs who are performing at an unbelievable level, we’re talking Reece James and Trent, but I’ve not seen a combative, technical, swashbuckling performance like that for a very long time,” Wright said.

“I said to him afterwards “Whatever you’re doing, the level you’ve shown us here, you need to do that consistently Djed.” I said that to him at the end of the game, and I also said ‘That level you have shown there, you should be in the Premier League.’”

Good enough for the Premier League

Wright told Spence last week that he’s good enough for the Premier League, and now it seems as though he’ll get his chance.

Indeed, the full-back is now wanted by Tottenham, Arsenal and Leeds, so it seems for all the world that he’ll get his shot to play in the top-flight.

Even if a move to any of those clubs doesn’t materialise, his parent club Middlesbrough and his current team Nottingham Forest are both in the playoff places, so perhaps he could play top-flight football next season with a team that is currently in the Championship.
