Ian Wright has said on ITV (7:04pm, October 9, 2021) that reported Arsenal target Raheem Sterling needs to sort out his situation at Manchester City.

The Arsenal legend has praised Sterling, who has been linked with a move to Mikel Arteta’s Gunners.

However, Wright believes that something needs to happen regarding Sterling and his lack of playing time at City.

The pundit made the comments ahead of the game between Andorra and England last night.

Sterling, who can play as an attacking midfielder or as a winger, did not start the match.

The Daily Star reported this month that Arsenal manager Arteta wants to bring the 26-year-old – who cost City £44 million in transfer fees when they signed him from Liverpool in 2015, as reported by BBC Sport at the time – to the Emirates Stadium.

CalcioMercato claimed this week that the Gunners have already made a move for the former Liverpool star.

Wright said about Sterling, as transcribed by The Express: “You’re looking at a player who is easily one of our most potent players who isn’t playing at his club, at some stage he’s going to have to sort it out.

“We know that Gareth will pick him and come the World Cup as long as he’s fit he’ll be going.

“But from a personal view whatever is going on with him and the manager, I think it was after a game against Man United then it was Southampton he went and had a word with him but since then been out of it.

“At some stage something has to happen where he plays more regularly.”

Could an Arsenal transfer happen?

Sterling has made two starts and five substitute appearances in the Premier League so far this season.

The City no. 7 made 28 starts in the Premier League last season.

It is unlikely that City will sell the Englishman in the January transfer window.

After all, manager Pep Guardiola needs all of his players to win the Premier League title and the Champions League this season.

However, a transfer could happen next summer, if Sterling does not get enough playing time and Arsenal are willing to pay big money.
