Ian Wright believes Chelsea should have brought in somebody like Glenn Hoddle to help Frank Lampard at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues travelled to North London on Tuesday night in the hope of coming up with a derby day performance.

Sadly for Chelsea supporters, this was another dismal night in a terrible season.

Arsenal ran riot in the first half and were 3-0 up by the break thanks to a Martin Odegaard brace and a Gabriel Jesus goal.

Chelsea did pull one back through Noni Madueke but this was another shocking Blues performance.

The season can’t end soon enough with fans already wondering how Mauricio Pochettino can rejuvenate the club.

It certainly isn’t working under Frank Lampard, who has lost all six of his games since taking charge.

Lampard looks like a manager who needs some help at the moment – and Ian Wright has a recommendation for the Blues.

Ian Wright thinks Glenn Hoddle ideal for Chelsea

Wright witnessed Chelsea’s display against his beloved Arsenal and was, like everyone else, baffled by just how bad they were.

Speaking on Wrighty’s House, Wright called upon Chelsea to get in an experienced head to work alongside Lampard.

Lampard isn’t exactly a rookie manager at this point after previous spells in charge of Derby County, Chelsea and Everton.

Yet Wright thinks the situation is so bad that somebody like Glenn Hoddle would have been ideal to bring in

“All I’d be doing at Chelsea if I went as Frank as the interim, firstly I’d get a majorly experienced person up top above me, someone like Glenn Hoddle,” said Wright.

“I’d get someone like Glenn Hoddle just to have that soundboard of somebody to say ‘what do I do here?’ Because it’s blatantly obvious for me to see that the gaps between the midfield, defence and the forwards are too wide,” he added.

Hoddle finished up his playing career with Chelsea in the 1990’s whilst holding a player/manager role at Stamford Bridge.

The 65-year-old has been out of management since leaving Wolverhampton Wanderers back in 2006 but did coach at Queens Park Rangers under Harry Redknapp.

Still doing punditry duty, Hoddle seems unlikely to make a return to football but Wright would like to see him back at Chelsea.
