Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright comments on the playing styles of Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew and West Bromwich Albion boss Tony Pulis.
Arsenal legend Ian Wright has highlighted in The Sun the big difference between Alan Pardew and Tony Pulis.
The two Premier League managers will come face to face this afternoon when Crystal Palace take on West Bromwich Albion at Selhurst Park.
Pardew is currently in charge of Palace, while Pulis was the Eagles boss from November 2013 until the end of the 2013-14 season.
Former Arsenal striker Wright has been impressed with the way Palace have been playing under Pardew and has highlighted a key difference between his approach and that of Pulis.
“Alan’s teams are very much about going to win a match, while Tony’s sides tend to be about not losing,” the 51-year-old wrote in The Sun. “That is the big difference.”
Pulis is indeed a manager whose first priority is not to lose a game, with his playing style also quite direct and unentertaining.
Of course, one needs to consider the fact that Pulis’s main priority at some of the clubs he has managed is to make sure that they remain in the Premier League.
Working in a limited budget with players with not much technical skill, it makes sense to play the kind of football that is effective and ‘gets the job done’.
