Tottenham Hotspur should have signed Riyad Mahrez before the winger joined Manchester City from Leicester City, suggests Ian Wright.
City signed Mahrez from Premier League rivals Leicester this summer for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £60 million.
As for Tottenham, the North London outfit did not make a single signing in the summer transfer window.
Former Arsenal striker Wright has suggested that Spurs should have moved for Algeria international winger Mahrez before he left Leicester for City.
The Daily Mail quotes Wright as saying: “When you’re hearing Pochettino saying that he thinks he’s got everything he needs and there wasn’t anything out there that was available at the moment that could better his team, I feel that when you look at someone like Mahrez, it would have been tough to get him, but would Mahrez improve that team? I think he would. That’s the kind of player they’ve got to try and go for.”

Mahrez is one of the best wingers in the Premier League, and that City signed the 27-year-old this summer underlines his quality.
The former Leicester star would have improved the Tottenham squad, but one suspects that chairman Daniel Levy would not have paid anywhere close to £60m that City reportedly paid the Foxes for the winger.
Tottenham won 2-1 against Newcastle United away from home at St. James’ Park in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
