Ian Wright had his say on why Daniel Sturridge is struggling to hit the heights at Liverpool.

England's Daniel Sturridge

Speaking to the Sun Goals app (via the Daily Star), Arsenal legend Ian Wright has suggested his belief that Daniel Sturridge is not able to cope with the fact that he is no longer the main man at Liverpool.

Sturridge was considered one of the best strikers in Europe following his stunning performances during the 2013/14 Premier League campaign but unfortunately, the 26-year-old has been unable to consolidate over the past few seasons.

A host of injuries as well as inconsistency has meant that Sturridge has struggled to earn regular minutes on the pitch at Liverpool and the Englishman is now no longer the first choice striker at Anfield under manager Jurgen Klopp.

During the current Premier League campaign so far, Klopp has preferred the likes of Roberto Firmino and Divock Origi over Sturridge and there has been speculation that the former Manchester City man is not entirely happy with his manager.

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has gone on to give his thoughts on the situation surrounding Sturridge, suggesting the striker is struggling at the moment as he no longer feels wanted at Liverpool.

“The synergy doesn’t feel right. People are constantly talking about his body language,” Wright told The Sun Goals app.

“He is bringing him on for two minutes. You’d say when Daniel was younger, he was somebody who has always been very high up in the level he is in. Even to the point when he was injured for a while, people were saying when Daniel comes back we’ll be alright.

“He has this complex where he is needed. But all of a sudden he’s not needed. He’s needed but not to the same extent. He is dealing with the fact that he isn’t the main guy.

“I don’t know how much the manager is into me. It’s not happening for me. He has to get back to the training ground and work on trying to get into the team.”
