Everton striker Romelu Lukaku looks set to stay on Merseyside.
Ian Wright has told The Sun that he would be very, very surprised to see Everton sell Romelu Lukaku after manager Ronald Koeman’s latest comments.
Koeman claimed last week that the 23-year-old told him directly that he would be staying with Everton for at least one more season.
That will have been music to the ears of Toffees supporters after the Belgian striker netted 25 times in all competitions last term en route to becoming a £70 million transfer target of Chelsea – according to The Telegraph – who sold him in 2014.
With that being said, Everton fans might not totally relax until the transfer window shuts on August 31. In the mean time, anything could happen between now and then.
But Wright tells The Sun that he would be hugely surprised if Lukaku is now sold, in light of what Koeman said last week.
“I think you’re always apprehensive because the deadline is coming up, but I don’t think they would make that statement like that, that blatantly, and then he moves.
“I’d be very, very surprised to see him move.”
Lukaku is set to start tonight’s second-round League Cup encounter with Yeovil Town, after missing the 1-1 draw with Spurs on the opening weekend, and having a cameo role in Saturday’s 2-1 win at West Brom.
