Ian Wright suggests that Southampton could face a battle to keep hold of manager Ronald Koeman.

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has suggested in The Sun that Ronald Koeman could leave Southampton soon.

Koeman has been in charge of the Saints since the summer of 2014 following the departure of Mauricio Pochettino to Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

The Dutchman has been hugely successful at St. Mary’s Stadium so far, leading the team to a seventh-place finish in the Premier League last season.

Southampton have made a decent start to the 2015-16 campaign and find themselves ninth in the league table at the moment, just three points behind fourth-place Crystal Palace.

Former Arsenal striker Wright seems to be a huge fan of Koeman and has suggested that the 52-year-old could leave the Premier League outfit soon.

“It’s funny to look back now at how everyone thought Southampton would plummet when Mauricio Pochettino went to Spurs,” the Arsenal legend wrote in The Sun.

“Koeman came in, had to replace most of his big guns, and led the Saints into Europe. This season was a slow burner but has burst into light again — how long before their biggest battle is keeping hold of him?”

Koeman is one of the best managers in the Premier League, and, as Wright suggests, it is only a matter of time before he leaves for a bigger club.

The former Barcelona star is very ambitious, and one should not be surprised if he leaves St. Mary’s next summer if a big European club come calling.

Southampton themselves are an ambitious outfit, but there is little more they can do at the moment other than compete for a Europa League place.

A top-four finish in the Premier League is nothing but a dream.
