Ian Wright has told The Sun that Everton star Ross Barkley needs consistency if he wants to re-establish himself for England.
The 22-year-old has perhaps stagnated a little in 2016, but Ronald Koeman’s arrival at Everton has given him a new lease of life it seems.
The Toffees midfielder has netted two goals for the club in all competition this season and overall, the England international appears to be finding the form which made him such an exciting prospect once upon a time.
Barkley’s form has affected his England career under Roy Hodgson, but plenty of players have a clean slate now under new boss Sam Allardyce.
And Wright believes that consistency is the only thing standing between Barkley and regular England caps.
“I’m delighted because all Ross Barkley needs is consistency in his game. He’ll fly back into the England squad, into the team, if he carries on playing like he’s playing, simply because of the manager’s he got,” he told The Sun.
It has been a wonderful start to the season for Everton, who sit second in the Premier League table, two points behind Manchester City.
If not for a 1-1 draw with Spurs on the opening day, Koeman’s side would boast a 100% record, having won four of their five outings, and Barkley has played a big role in that.
