Ian Wright has told the Wrighty’s House podcast that he has been so impressed with Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre Emile Hojbjerg’s defending.

Hojbjerg came in at Tottenham from Southampton for £15 million this summer (Sky Sports) and he has immediately become a key player.

The Danish international has caught the eye, with his powerful showings in midfield earning him high praise.

And Wright feels that Hojbjerg’s influence on the team has been a major factor behind Tottenham looking so good.

“Defensively with Hojbjerg, the amount of things that he’s stopping,” he said.

“The amount of fouls that Spurs are committing now. They’re doing that stuff that City used to do, making fouls and stopping teams from playing.

“The chances that they are creating, most chances created in the league, the most goals from open play in the league, shots on target, the most in the league.”

Hojbjerg’s arrival at Tottenham has played a role in forcing both Harry Winks and Dele Alli out of the team.

The two midfielders can hardly get a look in, with Jose Mourinho’s preferred midfield options becoming clear.

Hojbjerg has generally played in the deepest of Tottenham’s midfield roles, with Moussa Sissoko and Tanguy Ndombele around him.

Hojbjerg’s defensive qualities are sure to be tested this weekend, when Spurs take on Manchester City.

If Tottenham can pick up the win they will really establish themselves as title contenders though, and they could move back to the top of the Premier League standings.
