You would go a long way to find a transfer recruitment team that has faired worse than Manchester United.

Whether it’s the manager Erik ten Hag’s fault, Manchester United as a club, or just absolutely everything. Their transfers have just been beyond shocking.

One market the struggling Premier League side has targeted recently has been the Dutch market and Ajax, in particular, something which West Ham United are now benefiting from.

Two men who are thriving under David Moyes at West Ham United are Mohammed Kudus and Edson Alvarez, two players who Ian Wright thinks should be at Old Trafford, as he told Premier League Productions (01/01/24 at 2:50 pm).

Given the struggles of Antony, the Arsenal legend just couldn’t understand why they didn’t see Mohammed Kudus as a better option given his early success at the London Stadium.

It’s even more baffling for Ian Wright because Erik ten Hag worked with these players and helped them develop.

Yet, it was Antony who he felt was the one that would help him at Manchester United, even though he has struggled big time.

“With the constant stick they are beating him (ten Hag), with Alvarez and Kudus at West Ham,” said Wright.

“Two players he had himself and it’s baffling to me that you do sign Antony over Kudus. I don’t think we have needed to see too many games where you look at Kudus’ output to Antony’s output and then think ‘how can you choose this guy over this guy? When this guy is definitely doing a lot more’. The same with Alvarez.

“Those are the signings you look back on that ten Hag has made and think ‘what is going on there?’ It just doesn’t seem right to me.”

West Ham United and Manchester United’s transfers

It needs to be noted that last season, West Ham struggled after their new signings took time to settle in.

But it was worth the trouble because they secured European Conference League glory by the end of it all.

This summer. From James Ward-Prowse to Kudus. The signings have settled in far quicker and proven to be more effective.

The same can’t be said for Man United who, from Antony to Rasmus Hojlund, are finding life very difficult.

In truth, if things continue as they are with ten Hag, then he will be out of the door at Old Trafford sharpish.
