Ian Wright has told Match of the Day, which was broadcast on BBC One on 13th April, that he simply cannot understand why Everton midfielder Andre Gomes put in such a poor tackle on Aleksandar Mitrovic at the weekend.

Everton were beaten 2-0 by Fulham on Saturday, and Gomes’ frustrations clearly got the better of him.

The Portuguese international went into a horrendous tackle on Mitrovic, and he was very lucky not to see a red card.

Gomes discipline has generally been good since he joined Everton, and Wright was at a loss over why the midfielder went into the tackle.

Wright said: “I can’t understand it. I’ve never seen him do that since he’s been here. He’s been a terrific player. But they’ll probably look at that and he might get in trouble for it.”

Everton’s defeat to Fulham was highly disappointing, as it ended their strong run of form.

Marco Silva’s side appeared to have turned a corner in recent weeks, but they were at their worst at Craven Cottage.

Everton struggled to deal with already relegated Fulham throughout the contest and were deservedly beaten in the end.

The defeat means that the Toffees have remained in ninth place in the Premier League table.
