Speaking on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Ian Wright has shared what Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips text him after the Whites’ draw with Manchester United.

Leeds vs Manchester United wasn’t the most entertaining game of all time, but it was an interesting tactical battle, and Phillips played a blinder.

The midfielder kept the likes of Bruno Fernandes quiet at the weekend, but he knew he’d put in a shift after the game, texting Wright about how tough the match was.

“I sent a message to Kalvin Phillips saying ‘Bro, excellent, outstanding performance.’” Wright said.

“He replied saying ‘That was a hard day at the office.’ Following them around and trying. I can’t imagine what it’s like to play against a team like City, you look at United and think they could be doing more, and then you’ve got a man like that who is saying it’s a hard day at the office.”

It’s high praise for Manchester United that Phillips found it difficult to play against them.

Phillips is one of the most energetic and non-stop midfielders in the league, so the fact that he struggled to deal with Manchester United is interesting.

He didn’t cope in the reverse fixture as United put six past Leeds, but second time around it seems as though he adapted well, even if he had to work extra-hard.

Manchester United certainly put Leeds through their paces and we can’t wait to see these two titans face-off again next season.
