Speaking on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Ian Wright has disclosed what Alexandre Lacazette has said to him after being mocked on Match of the Day.
The Arsenal legend made fun of Lacazette’s exaggerated screams after going down against Burnley by doing a bit of acting on Match of the Day, and while it was quite a funny moment, Arsenal fans weren’t best pleased to see a club legend mocking a current player.
Wright says that it was stupid, but he’s since spoken to Lacazette who doesn’t have a problem with it.
“We were digging out the screaming. My biggest mistake was screaming at the end. It was stupid,” Wright said.
“It wasn’t a problem for Gary Lineker, it wasn’t a problem for Dion Dublin, but at the same time I have to realise what it means for the Arsenal fanbase to feel like one of their own is digging them out.
“I can only say I’m digging out screaming. We’re talking about people who are screaming and get up and play on.”
Wright then went on to discuss the internal conversations that happened at the BBC about making fun of the situation and what Lacazette said to him after the incident.

“The main thing was making it right with Lacazette, I’m not bothered about what comes back in terms of digging out about it, but I needed to make sure he was ok with it, and he was.”
“So you hit up Laca?” Wright’s co-host then asked.
“Absolutely,” Wright replied.
“And what was the thing you said? He was just like it’s nothing don’t worry about it?
“Yeah, (He said) it’s nothing man, that’s nothing bro. To the point where he said ‘I’m glad you’re ok as well’, you know what I mean that kind of joke.”

This is a mark of the man that Ian Wright is.
Every single week pundits say incendiary things about players that could personally hurt them, but you rarely hear about personal contact to make sure they didn’t overstep the mark.
Roy Keane said on live television that he wanted to throw a punch at David de Gea a few months ago, and we never heard any apology from the Sky Sports pundit, but after a bit of fun, Wright wanted to make sure he hadn’t upset the Arsenal striker.
This is the right way for pundits to go about their business if they get a bit of backlash, and we can’t help but admire Wright for this.
