Arsenal’s season went from bad to worse this afternoon after losing 1-0 away to Aston Villa.
The damage was done inside two minutes as Ollie Watkins’s fortuitous goal beat Mat Ryan on what was his debut for the Gunners.
Both Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers – who beat Arsenal in midweek – have done the double over Mikel Arteta’s side this season, with the North Londoners sitting 10th in the Premier League table.
Here’s how Ian Wright reacted to the defeat on Twitter:
Things could get even worse for Arsenal, who could potentially end this Premier League gameweek in 13th place, depending on other results over the course of the weekend and Monday night.
This is a worrying situation for the Emirates Stadium side because although they have improved in a major way since enduring their worst start to a season since 1975, Arteta’s troops look to be regressing again.
They have taken just the one point from the last nine on offer and when you’re trying to salvage your season with a view toward finishing in the top four, that just isn’t good enough.
