Arsenal’s season went from bad to rotten on Sunday night.

The 10-man Gunners lost 1-0 to Burnley at the Emirates Stadium for what was their fourth successive home defeat in the Premier League – their worst record since 1959.

Even more worrying, Arsenal are 15th in the Premier League table and only five points clear of the drop zone.

And if Burnley at home is too tough for them then it’s difficult to see how Mikel Arteta is going to turn this around.

Arsenal’s cause wasn’t helped when Granit Xhaka got himself sent off in the second half for grabbing Ashley Westwood by the throat.

At the time, Arteta’s side were very much on top and a goal seemed to be coming at 0-0, but the dismissal took the wind of their sails in a huge way.

Moments after the red card, Arsenal legend Ian Wright posted a cryptic message on Twitter of The Incredible Hulk rag-dolling a villain and whipping him into the ground – perhaps how the iconic striker felt about Xhaka in that moment.

The North Londoners are home to Southampton again on Wednesday and another defeat – which would make it five on the spin at the Emirates – might well spell the end of Arteta’s year-long reign at the club.
