Ian Wright praised Tottenham, and Arsenal fans did not like it.

Ian Wright looks on prior to the Barclays Premier League match between West Ham United and Manchester City at Boleyn Ground on October 25, 2014 in London, England.

Pundit and former striker Ian Wright has explained why he removed a tweet praising Tottenham Hotspur.

Wright sent a tweet out commending Tottenham on their win over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Wednesday night, before quickly deleting it.

He has since sent another message out explaining why, and says it was because of the ‘vile abuse’ he received from Arsenal fans about it.

Wright played for Arsenal, won the league with them and was briefly their record goalscorer, and is still a fan of the club.

He wants to be able to objectively praise their rivals without criticism, and give credit where it is due, as he explained, going on to clarify his praise of Tottenham.

Arsenal have their own problems right now, and Tottenham’s good form highlights their shortcomings.

Spurs are in third place in the league and closing in on the last eight of the Champions League.

The Gunners are fifth, and last night lost in the Europa League to BATE Borisov.
