Arsenal legend Ian Wright said on BBC Radio 5live 606 on Sunday evening (August 20, 2018) that Victor Wanyama is the weak link in the Tottenham Hotspur midfield.

The former Arsenal striker made the observation following Tottenham’s 2-1 defeat to Chelsea at the Wembley Stadium in the Premier League at the weekend.

Spurs conceded the second Chelsea goal late in the game on Sunday evening, with Wanyama needlessly giving the ball away and the Blues taking advantage of that.

“In respects of Wanyama, you have to look at the other side of it as well,” said Wright on BBC Radio 5live 606 on Sunday evening (August 20, 2018) while speaking to a Spurs fan.

“If you look at their midfield, who would you say is the weakest link in respects of passing and controlling in the Tottenham midfield, would you say? I would probably say it would be Wanyama.”

Wanyama is a decent passer of the ball – after all, his pass accuracy in the Premier League last season was 87.5% per game – but there is no doubt that the Kenya international defensive midfielder should have done better for Chelsea’s second goal.

However, all footballers make mistakes. In fact, Hugo Lloris, who is a world-class goalkeeper, should probably have kept out Marcos Alonso’s strike from close range.

It is important that the Tottenham players and the fans move on from the defeat to Chelsea at Wembley and focus on their next game.
