Speaking on the Futbol with Grant Wahl Podcast, Ian Wright has been chatting about Liverpool’s title chances and the form of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

Salah and Mane are undoubtedly two of the Reds’ most important players, but they had to miss a portion of the season due to the African Cup of Nations.

There were fears that the pair would lose form after the AFCON. After all, there’s a lot of travel involved, and for Salah, there was heartbreak in the final.

However, Wright has been impressed by how the pair have managed to hit the ground running again upon their return to Liverpool.

What’s been said?

Wright says that he favours Liverpool for the title, reserving special praise for Mane and Salah.

“At the start of the season, when Chelsea signed Lukaku I thought that was the final piece. Man City are the favourites, but now I’m leaning towards Liverpool. They’re closer now, Man City were 13 points ahead and everyone thought it was over when Liverpool lost Salah and Mane and it never made a dent on them. They have come back and they have hit the ground running again, and City have seen that and seen that they can’t afford to slip up. Liverpool are grinding it out and doing it,” Wright said.

Elite mentality

The fact that Salah and Mane have managed to come back after AFCON in this way is a testament to their mentalities.

Salah lost the final on penalties. For many, that would have derailed their season and destroyed their confidence, but he’s looking as good as ever.

Mane, of course, was on the winning team in that final, and he very easily could have become complacent after achieving such international success, but he looks as hungry as any other Liverpool player.

These two have been vital to Liverpool’s title push.
