Ian Wright gave his thoughts on Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli.

Pundit Ian Wright has said he believes Dele Alli has looked frustrated in recent weeks with the position he has been playing in.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live’s Monday Night Club (23/10 7pm), Wright said he feels that Tottenham Hotspur’s change of system benefitted him against Liverpool.

Wright praised Alli’s performance, and Mauricio Pochettino’s tactical tweak.

He said: “It was the best I’ve seen him (Alli) play in a long time.

“I’ve seen him look very frustrated. Yesterday (Sunday) he was involved in everything. He wants to nutmeg people, play passes, he enjoyed that.”

Alli has missed Tottenham’s three Champions League group games so far as he has been serving a ban, which has now passed, and this could also have added to his frustration.

The England midfielder dropped deeper against Liverpool and got more involved with the game, to terrific effect, as he scored the third goal in a dramatic 4-1 win.

So far this season Alli has scored three goals and provided one assist in nine Premier League starts, which is a solid return given that he has not been at his best.

The prospect of him now kicking on further is an ominous warning for opposition defences.
