Arsenal legend Ian Wright has told Sky Sports that Tottenham Hotspur need to change their mentality in order to get close to Manchester City.

The former Arsenal striker pointed at Tottenham’s 3-1 defeat to Pep Guardiola’s City at the Wembley Stadium in London in the Premier League last weekend as an indication that they have a problem in their mentality and need to change their attitude.

Wright told Sky Sports: “They have still got the mind-shifting, Spurs. Everything’s working in their favour.

“They have got the players, they have got the new stadium to go to, they are in the top four.

“Now, I think, there has definitely got to be some shift in their mentality of going when City come to their place, really putting it on them, like Liverpool do.”

Change of mentality

Tottenham’s record against the big teams in the Premier League is not great, and the North London outfit do need to improve on that.

Competing with City this season was always going to be tough, but Spurs are far too many points behind Pep Guardiola’s side than they should be at the moment.

Although the North London outfit could well finish second in the Premier League yet again this season, they should be looking at closing the gap between themselves and City in order to challenge for the league title in the coming years.

Spurs do need to do better against the top clubs, and if they are able to do that, then they will go a long way.
