Speaking on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Ian Wright has been discussing Emi Buendia and his potential at Aston Villa.
The Argentine joined the Villans last summer as the club’s record signing, and it’s fair to say there was a lot of excitement around this signing at the time.
However, for one reason or another, Buendia hasn’t quite lived up to expectations at the Midlands club so far.
Luckily for Villa, there have still been flashes of brilliance from the Argentine, and according to Wright this is a player just waiting to explode, stating that he just needs a manager who will demand the best out of him and get him going.

Ready to explode
Wright discussed Buendia.
“Buendia is something waiting to explode. He is a player who needs someone to grab him by the shoulders and tell him he’s got more and that he wants more. He has something where he can grab a game by the scruff of the neck and make the team win. Hopefully Unai will use those players and make them go forward with some love of football,” Wright said.
Has the ability
Buendia has the ability to take any game by the scruff of the neck, but sadly, we’ve not seen anywhere near enough of that at Villa so far.
This is a talented player who needs a system built around him, and when that happens, he can create magic.
Back at Norwich he was their talisman, but sadly, at Villa, he’s a smaller fish in a bigger pond and he doesn’t have the luxury of being the centre of attention here.
However, Unai Emery is a remarkably talented coach, and if he can get to grips with the finer points of Buendia’s game, he will have a star on his hands.
