Speaking on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Ian Wright has been full of praise for Kieran Trippier after his electric start to life at Newcastle United.
The right-back has been absolutely exceptional since joining the Magpies in January. He’s immediately stepped up and become a leader in the Newcastle backline, while his goals have also earned United some valuable points.
Wright says he’s been a fan of Trippier for some time now, claiming that he’s always been a very underrated player.
What’s Wright said?
The pundit gave his view on the right-back.
“I think that of anybody Kieran Trippier should get flowers. When Kyle Walker left and Poch said ‘this Kieran Trippier is pretty good’, they didn’t miss him one bit, not one iota. He’s very underrated with his delivery, he’s a very underrated player. The fact that Gareth loves him, he plays on the left or on the right. Nobody could tell me that Trippier would be the face of Newcastle’s change, nobody could have said that a 31-year-old right-back would change it like he has, I have to give this man flowers,” Wright said.

Finally getting the credit
Wright says that Trippier is a very underrated player, and historically, that would have been true.
However, in recent weeks he’s finally been getting the credit he deserves.
Trippier’s quality has really shone through in this Newcastle team where he is seen as one of the most important players in the squad.
Trippier has always been a quality footballer, but now that he’s been placed in a somewhat mediocre squad, it’s clear to see just how brilliant he is.
Sadly, the right-back faces a spell on the sidelines with injury, but hopefully, he’ll be back sooner rather than later.
