Speaking on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Ian Wright has been discussing Kalvin Phillips and his future.

The midfielder has been out injured for the majority of this season, but despite his fitness issues, he’s been linked with big-money moves to both Aston Villa and West Ham United.

Wright gave his view on the midfielder’s future, and Leeds fans will probably agree with what he’s saying.

The Arsenal legend stated that Phillips should stay at Leeds for a little while and get them back to their best before he fulfils his ambition of playing for a Champions League club.

What’s been said?

Wright gave his view on Phillips.

“I was talking about Kalvin Phillips and people were speaking about him leaving, but he should stay for a while. Why not? He’ll be courted because of how good he is in that position and at some stage he wants to play in the Champions League, because that’s what his level deserves, but after being injured, go back to Leeds, get them back to where we saw them when they first came up and get them pushing,” Wright said.

Cement his legacy

Phillips is on the verge of being a bona fide Leeds United legend, and a few more years of good service would help him cement that legacy.

He’s a local lad come good and a true academy success story, and two or three more years of keeping Leeds competitive in the Premier League will see him go down in that club’s folklore for years.

Of course, every player wants to win trophies and play at the top level, and while there is time for Phillips to do that, perhaps he would be better off staying at Leeds for a little while yet.
